Again, I don't recall whether it was this forum or GWO, but the two quotes that come to mind are:

In reference to a particular Elonian hairstyle: "Does it come with five kids from different dads?"

In reference to an Elonian elementalist: "Is he from Tyria, Cantha, or Harlem?"

The thread equating cornrows and afros to gangsters is also pretty clear.

I don't see why people are bothered about this stuff. ANet has a crack crew that can, and will, ban anyone they deem to have an offensive name. If seeing a name or hearing a comment pisses you off that much on an online, faceless, RPG, then I think it's your skin that isn't thick enough.

Besides, I'm racist. I hate humans. One day we meerkats will rule this orb of mud and water!

The meerkat comment...really...confused me. So...you are racist or you were just tieing that comment to your comment about...being a meerkat?

Bah...

Meerkats, like ninjas, are very enigmatic.

Report them. Better yet, see how many people you can get to report the same guy and don't give it a second thought.

It's the year 2006

Now I've many a time thought of asking people to whisper spam someone for trying to scam or doing something else bad, but never a mass ban. I like your thinking! I'll try it out next time I see some trash floating around in GW.

BTW: thx to Mr.Moses for covering for me while I was temp banned :P

I think a lot of it is people not knowing about the reporting system. I played for 6 months without knowing about it... although I don't think I ever abused it. I'm sure if more people knew that they could get banned they would keep to themselves more. Maybe a message on the login screen warning people like the bot one would help.

since I can't post names, but since it adds to it, think of one rhyming with "I Smeel Ack Eeple" and "Enslaav'd Ungle Ann".

what bothers me more about it, is the fact that no one on the whole district in LA thought it was bad, and people were actually bidding on him.

I have read all the posts here and this thread has really been going nowhere. Where is the general direction of this thread going? Racism is always here to stay so deal with it?

To prove my point, I'm going to make a PvP character with a racially offensive name and see exactly how many people give a damn.

You just proved everyones point in the forum, when theres people like you, or even trying to be racist, there's racism, gg.

If you have nothing better to do than make controversial conversations or racial names please do something better in your life.

The biggest issue with racism is that people continue to justify their beliefs. Whether you are yelling slurs at a person of another race to their face, or you are simply doing it behind the anonymity of the internet, you will not always get the punch in the face you most likely deserve. People who are offended most by your behavior have been practicing the turn-the-other-cheek behavior for a long time. Do not provoke further racial issues among an already ignorant populace to further perpetuate stereotypes.

The whole afro-american subculture uses "Nigga" inflationary, throughout music, movies, any other type of media or discussion plattform. Only "white bread" gets punished for it. Kids getting taught being a gangster is cool, you get all the ladies, wear jewels, own fat cars, houses and all that illusionary crap shattering at reality. Blacks commit most of the crimes, have the lowest average IQ and live under the worst circumstances. Now the latter is sad indeed, I am not really willing to say they are not at a disadvantage, but yet, it's not like they're not getting a chance.

I thought only the interface did that!

Off-topicness aside -

People often wonder about my closure of racism-related threads, as I've done so to every thread I've seen since modship.

Every such thread ends up a fight between people of differing values, and, that some of those people will begin (and have begun) to patronise each other doesn't help.

There's no outright flaming here, and that's great. But flaming isn't the only grounds in which to close a thread.

In 3 pages, nothing really constructive has come of this thread, while there have been a few borderline moderatable posts. That being the case, considering the heated nature of the discussion, and some of the gems that have cropped up thus far, it's for the best that it is closed, it seems.

For individuals that wish to report offensive player/guild/alliance names or other related issues-
